Allah is the Greatest

allahu akbar

اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ ras£la all¡hi

Peace be upon you; O the Messenger of Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ nabiyya all¡hi

Peace be upon you; O the Prophet of Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنَ عَبْدِاللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ mu¦ammadu bna `abdill¡hi

Peace be upon you; O Mu¦ammad ibn `Abdull¡h.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا خَاتَمَ النَّبِيِّينَ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ kh¡tama alnnabiyy¢na

Peace be upon you; O the Seal of the Prophets.

أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ قَدْ بَلَّغْتَ الرِّسَالَةَ،

ash-hadu annaka qad ballghta alrris¡lata

I bear witness that you conveyed the Mission,

وَأَقَمْتَ الصَّلاةَ،

wa aqamta al¥¥alata

offered the prayers,

وَآتَيْتَ الزَّكَاةَ،

wa ¡tayta alzzakata

gave alms,

وَأَمَرْتَ بِالمَعْرُوفِ،

wa amarta bilma`r£fi

enjoined the right,

وَنَهَيْتَ عَنِ المُنْكَرِ،

wa nahayta `ani almunkari

forbade the wrong,

وَعَبَدْتَ اللّهَ مُخْلِصاً حَتَّى أَتَاكَ اليَقِينُ،

wa `abadta all¡ha mukhli¥an ¦att¡ at¡ka aliyaq¢nu

and served Almighty Allah sincerely until death came upon you.

فَصَلَوَاتُ اللّهِ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَتُهُ

fa¥alaw¡tu all¡hi `alayka wa ra¦matuhu

Blessings and mercy of Allah be upon you

وَعَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِكَ الطَّاهِرِينَ.

wa `al¡ ahli baytika al§§¡hir¢na

and upon your Household, the Immaculate.

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلهَ إِلاَّ اللّهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ،

ash-hadu an l¡ il¡ha ill¡ all¡hu wa¦dahu l¡ shar¢ka lahu

I bear witness that there is no god save Allah, alone without having any associate;

وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ،

wa ash-hadu ann mu¦ammadan `abduhu wa ras£luhu

and I bear witness that Mu¦ammad is His servant and Messenger.

وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ،

wa ash-hadu annaka ras£lu all¡hi

I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah,

وَأَنَّكَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِاللّهِ،

wa annaka mu¦ammadu bnu `abdill¡hi

and you are Mu¦ammad, son of `Abdull¡h.

وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ قَدْ بَلَّغْتَ رِسَالاتِ رَبِّكَ

wa ash-hadu annaka qad ballghta ris¡l¡ti rabbika

I bear witness that you have conveyed the messages of your Lord,

وَنَصَحْتَ لأُمَّتِكَ،

wa na¥a¦ta li’ummtika

offered your people good advice,

وَجَاهَدْتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ،

wa j¡hadta f¢ sab¢li all¡hi

striven hard in the way of Allah,

وَعَبَدْتَ اللّهَ حَتَّى أَتَاكَ اليَقِينُ

wa `abadta all¡ha ¦att¡ at¡ka aliyaq¢nu

worshipped Allah -until death came upon you-

بِالحِكْمَةِ وَالمَوْعِظَةِ الحَسَنَةِ،

bil¦ikmati wal-maw`i¨ati al¦asanati

with wisdom and fair exhortation,

وَأَدَّيْتَ الَّذِي عَلَيْكَ مِنَ الحَقِّ،

wa addayta alladhy `alayka mina al¦aqqi

fulfilled the duty that was incumbent upon you,

وَأَنَّكَ قَدْ رَؤُفْتَ بِالمُؤْمِنِينَ،

wa annaka qad ra’u´ufta bilmu´min¢na

you have acted compassionately to the believers,

وَغَلُظْتَ عَلَى الكَافِرِينَ،

wa ghalu¨ta `al¡ alk¡fir¢na

and you have been firm of heart against the unbelievers;

فَبَلَّغَ اللّهُ بِكَ أَفْضَلَ شَرَفِ مَحَلِّ المُكَرَّمِينَ،

faballgha all¡hu bika af¤ala sharafi ma¦all almukarram¢na

therefore, Almighty Allah has exalted you to the most honorable position of the ennobled ones.

الحَمْدُ لِلّهِ الَّذِي اسْتَنْقَذَنَا بِكَ مِنْ الشِّرْكِ وَالضَّلالَةِ.

al¦amdu lill¡hi alladhy astanqadhan¡ bika min alshshirki wal-¤¤al¡lati

All praise be to Allah Who has saved us, through you, from polytheism and error.

اللّهُمَّ فَاجْعَلْ صَلَوَاتِكَ وَصَلَوَاتِ مَلائِكَتِكَ المُقَرَّبِينَ،

all¡humma f¡j`al ¥alaw¡tika wa ¥alaw¡ti mal¡’ikatika almuqarrab¢na

O Allah: (please do) pour Your blessings and the blessings of Your Intimate Angels,

وَأَنْبِيَائِكَ المُرْسَلِينَ،

wa anbiy¡’ika almursal¢na

Your commissioned Prophets,

وَعِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ،

wa `ib¡dika al¥¥¡li¦¢na

Your righteous servants,

وَأَهْلِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرَضِينَ،

wa ahli alssam¡w¡ti wal-ara¤¢na

the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth,

وَمَنْ سَبَّحَ لَكَ يَا رَبَّ العَالَمِينَ

wa man sabba¦a laka y¡ rabba al`¡lam¢na

and all those who glorified You, O Lord of the Worlds,

مِنَ الأَوَّلِينَ وَالآخِرِينَ

mina al-awwal¢na wal-¡khir¢na

from the past and the coming generations,

عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ

`al¡ mu¦ammadin `abdika wa ras£lika

on Mu¦ammad—Your servant, Your Messenger,

وَنَبِيِّكَ وَأَمِينِكَ

wa nabiyyka wa am¢nika

Your Prophet, Your Trustee,

وَنَجِيِّكَ وَحَبِيبِكَ

wa najiyyika wa ¦ab¢bika

Your Confidant, Your Most Beloved,

وَصَفِيِّكَ وَخَاصَّتِكَ

wa ¥afiyyika wa kh¡¥¥atika

Your Choice, Your Select,

وَصَفْوَتِكَ وَخِيَرَتِكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ.

wa ¥afwatika wa khiyaratika min khalqika

Your elite, and the best of Your creation.

اللّهُمَّ أَعْطِهِ الدَّرَجَةَ الرَّفِيعَةَ،

all¡humma a`§ihi alddarajata alrraf¢`ata

O Allah: (please do) confer upon him with the Elevated Rank,

وَآتِهِ الوَسِيلَةَ مِنَ الجَنَّةِ،

wa ¡tihi alwas¢lata mina aljannati

And grant him the right of intercession for entering Paradise,

وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَاماً مَحْمُوداً يَغْبِطُهُ بِهِ الأَوَّلُونَ وَالآخِرُونَ.

w¡b`athhu maq¡man ma¦m£dan yaghbi§uhu bihi al-awwal£na wal-¡khir£na

and raise him to a Position of Glory that all the past and the coming generations will wish to have.

اللّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ قُلْتَ:

all¡humma innaka qulta:

O Allah: You have said,

(وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ إِذْظَلَمُوَا أَنْفُسَهُمْ جَاءُوكَ فَاسْتَغْفَرُوَا اللّهَ

“walaw annhum idh ¨alam£ anfusahum j¡‘£ka f¡staghfar£ all¡ha

“And had they, when they were unjust to themselves, come to you and asked forgiveness of Allah

وَاسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُمُ الرَّسُولُ

wastaghfara lahumu alrras£lu

and the Messenger had (also) asked forgiveness for them,

لَوَجَدُوَا اللّهَ تَوَّاباً رَحِيماً.)

lawajad£ all¡ha taww¡ban ra¦¢man”

they would have found Allah Oft-returning (to mercy), Merciful.”

وَإِنِّي أَتَيْتُكَ مُسْتَغْفِراً تَائِباً مِنْ ذُنُوبِي،

wa inn¢ ataytuka mustaghfiran t¡’iban min dhun£b¢

Here I am, before you, asking Allah’s forgiveness, repenting from my sins,

وَإِنِّي أَتَوَجَّهُ بِكَ إِلَى اللّهِ رَبِّي وَرَبِّكَ لِيَغْفِرَ لِي ذُنُوبِي.

wa inn¢ atawajjahu bika il¡ all¡hi rabby wa rabbika liyaghfira l¢ dhun£b¢

and seeking your intercession for me before Almighty Allah—your and my Lord—that He may forgive my sins.

أَسْأَلُ اللّهَ الَّذِي اجْتَبَاكَ وَاخْتَارَكَ

as'alu all¡ha alladhy ijtab¡ka wakht¡raka

I pray Allah -Who has chosen, selected,

وَهَدَاكَ وَهَدَى بِكَ

wa had¡ka wa had¡ bika

and guided you, and guided (others) through you-

أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْكَ.

an yu¥alliya `alayka

to bless You.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ

inna all¡ha wa mal¡’ikatahu yu¥all£na `al¡ alnnabiyyi

Surely Allah and His angels bless the Prophet;

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيماً.

y¡ ayyuh¡ alladh¢na ¡man£ ¥all£ `alayhi wa sallum£ tasl¢man.

O you who believe! Call for (Divine) blessings on him and salute him with a (becoming) salutation.

أَسْأَلُكَ أَيْ جَوَادُ،

as’aluka ay jaw¡du

I beseech You, O All-magnanimous,

أَيْ كَرِيمُ،

ay kar¢mu

O All-generous,

أَيْ قَرِيبُ،

ay qar¢bu

O Nigh,

أَيْ بَعِيدُ

ay ba`¢du

O Remote,

أَنْ تَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ نِعْمَتَكَ.

an tarudda `alayya ni`mataka

to renew Your boons to me.

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلهَ إِلاَّ اللّهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ،

ash-hadu an l¡ il¡ha ill¡ all¡hu wa¦hadu l¡ shar¢ka lahu

I bear witness that there is no god save Allah, alone without having any associate;

وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ،

wa ash-hadu anna mu¦ammadan `abduhu wa ras£luhu

and I bear witness that Mu¦ammad is His servant and Messenger,

وَأَنَّهُ سَيِّدُ الأوَّلِينَ وَالآخِرِينَ،

wa annhu sayyidu al-awwal¢na wal-¡khir¢na

and that he is the Master of the ancient and coming generations,

وَأَنَّهُ سَيِّدُ الأنْبِيَاءِ وَالْمُرْسَلِينَ.

wa annhu sayyidu alanby¡‘i wal-mursal¢na

and that he is the chief of all Prophets and Messengers.

اللّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ الأئِمَةِ الطَّيِّبِينَ.

all¡humma ¥alli `alayhi wa `al¡ ahli baytihi al

O Allah: send blessings upon him and upon his Household—the Immaculate Imams.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ ras£la all¡hi

Peace be upon you; O the Messenger of Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا خَلِيلَ اللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ khal¢la all¡hi

Peace be upon you; O the Friend of Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ nabiyya all¡hi

Peace be upon you; O the Prophet of Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا صَفِيَّ اللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ ¥afiyya all¡hi

Peace be upon you; O the Choice of Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَحْمَةَ اللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ ra¦mata all¡hi

Peace be upon you; O the Mercy of Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا خِيَرَةَ اللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ khiyarata all¡hi

Peace be upon you; O the Well-Chosen by Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حَبِيبَ اللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ ¦ab¢ba all¡hi

Peace be upon you; O the Most Beloved of Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا نَجِيبَ اللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ naj¢ba all¡hi

Peace be upon you; O the Selected by Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا خَاتَمَ النَّبِيِّينَ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ kh¡tama alnnabiyy¢na

Peace be upon you; O the Seal of the Prophets.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا سَيِّدَ المُرْسَلِينَ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ sayyida almursal¢na

Peace be upon you; O the Master of the Messengers.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا قَائِماً بِالقِسْطِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ q¡’iman bilqis§i

Peace be upon you; O the Maintainer of justice.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا فَاتِحَ الخَيْرِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ f¡ti¦a alkhayri

Peace be upon you; O the introducer of goodliness.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَعْدِنَ الوَحْيِ وَالتَّنْزِيلِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ ma`dina alwa¦yi wal-ttanz¢li

Peace be upon you; O the core of Divine Inspiration and Revelation.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مُبَلِّغاً عَنِ اللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ muballighan `ani all¡hi

Peace be upon you; O the conveyor on behalf of Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا السِّرَاجُ المُنِيرُ،

assalamu `alayka ayyuh¡ alssir¡ju almun¢ru

Peace be upon you; O the light-giving torch.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مُبَشِّرُ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ mubashshru

Peace be upon you; O the conveyor of good tidings (to the believers).

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا نَذِيرُ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ nadh¢ru

Peace be upon you; O the warner (against Allah’s chastisement).

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مُنْذِرُ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ mundhiru

Peace be upon you; O he who warns (against violating Allah’s commands).

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا نُورَ اللّهِ الَّذِي يُسْتَضَاءُ بِهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ n£ra all¡hi alladhy yusta¤¡‘u bihi

Peace be upon you; O Allah’s Light that spreads luminosity.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِكَ الطَّيِّبِينَ الطَّاهِرِينَ

assalamu `alayka wa `al¡ ahli baytika al§§ayyib¢na al§§¡hir¢na

Peace be upon you and upon your Household—the pure, the immaculate,

الهَادِينَ المَهْدِيِّينَ،

alh¡d¢na almahdiyy¢na

the guide, the rightly guided.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى جَدِّكَ عَبْدِ المُطَّلِبِ،

assalamu `alayka wa `al¡ jaddika `abdi almu§§alibi

Peace be upon you and upon your grandfather, `Abd al-Mu§§alib,

وَعَلَى أَبِيكَ عَبْدِ اللّهِ،

wa `al¡ ab¢ka `abdi all¡hi

and upon your father, `Abdull¡h.

السَّلامُ عَلَى أُمِّكَ آمِنَةَ بِنْتِ وَهَبٍ،

assalamu `al¡ ‘ummka ¡minata binti wa habin

peace be upon your mother, ªminah, daughter of Wahab.

السَّلامُ عَلَى عَمِّكَ حَمْزَةَ سَيِّدِ الشُّهَدَاءِ،

assalamu `al¡ `ammka ¦amzata sayyidi alshshuhad¡‘i

Peace be upon your (paternal) uncle, °amzah, the master of martyrs.

السَّلامُ عَلَى عَمِّكَ العَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ المُطَّلِبِ،

assalamu `al¡ `ammka al`abb¡si bni `abdi almu§§alibi

Peace be upon your uncle, al-`Abb¡s son of `Abd al-Mu§§alib.

السَّلامُ عَلَى عَمِّكَ وَكَفِيلِكَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ،

assalamu `al¡ `ammka wa kaf¢lika aby §¡libin

Peace be upon your uncle and your guardian, Ab£-±¡lib.

السَّلامُ عَلَى ابْنِ عَمِّكَ جَعْفَرٍ الطَّيَّارِ فِي جِنَانِ الخُلْدِ،

assalamu `al¡ abni `ammka ja`farin al§§iyy¡ri f¢ jin¡ni alkhuldi

Peace be upon your cousin, Ja`far the flying in the gardens of the Paradise of Eternity.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ mu¦ammadu

Peace be upon you; O Mu¦ammad (the praised).

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَحْمَدُ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ a¦madu

Peace be upon you; O A¦mad (the more praised).

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَّةَ اللّهِ عَلَى الأَوَّلِينَ وَالآخِرِينَ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ ¦ujjata all¡hi `al¡ al-awwal¢na wal-¡khir¢na

Peace be upon you; O the Argument of Allah against the past and coming generations,

وَالسَّابِقَ إِلَى طَاعَةِ رَبِّ العَالَمِينَ،

wal-ss¡biqa il¡ §¡`ati rabb al`¡lam¢na

O the foremost to the obedience to the Lord of the worlds,

وَالمُهَيْمِنَ عَلَى رُسُلِهِ،

wal-muhaymina `al¡ rusulihi

the prevailing over His Messengers,

وَالخَاتِمَ لأَنْبِيَائِهِ،

wal-kh¡tima lianbiy¡’ihi

the last of His Prophets,

وَالشَّاهِدَ عَلَى خَلْقِهِ،

wal-shsh¡hida `al¡ khalqihi

the witness over all His creatures,

وَالشَّفِيعَ إِلَيْهِ،

wal-shshf¢`a ilayhi

the interceder to Him,

وَالمَكِينَ لَدَيْهِ،

wal-mak¢na ladayhi

the firmly established with Him,

وَالمُطَاعَ فِي مَلَكُوتِهِ،

wal-mu§¡`a f¢ malak£tihi

the obeyed in His Kingdom,

الأَحْمَدَ مِنَ الأَوْصَافِ،

ala¦mada mina alaw¥¡fi

the winner of the most praised qualities,

المُحَمَّدَ لِسَائِرِ الأَشْرَافِ،

almu¦ammada lis¡’iri alashr¡fi

the holder of the most praised honors,

الكَرِيمَ عِنْدَ الرَّبِّ،

alkar¢ma `inda alrrbb

the honored by the Lord,

وَالمُكَلَّمَ مِنْ وَرَاءِ الحُجُبِ،

wal-mukallma min wa r¡‘i al¦ujubi

the addressee (by Almighty Allah) from behind the (Divine) Veils,

الفَائِزَ بِالسِّبَاقِ،

alf¡’iza bilssb¡qi

the most advanced in position,

وَالفَائِتَ عَنِ اللِّحَاقِ،

wal-f¡’ita `ani all¦¡qi

and the unovertakable.

تَسْلِيمَ عَارِفٍ بِحَقِّكَ،

tasl¢ma `¡rifin bi¦aqqka

I greet you with the greeting of him who acknowledges your right (that is incumbent upon us),

مُعْتَرِفٍ بِالتَّقْصِيرِ فِي قِيَامِهِ بِوَاجِبِكَ،

mu`tarifin bilttq¥¢ri f¢ qiy¡mihi biw¡jibika

who confesses of his shortcoming in carrying out his duty towards you,

غَيْرِ مُنْكِرٍ مَا انْتَهَى إِلَيْهِ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ،

ghayri munkirin m¡ antah¡ ilayhi min fa¤lika

who does not discuss your limitless virtues,

مُوْقِنٍ بِالمَزِيدَاتِ مِنْ رَبِّكَ،

m£qinin bilmaz¢d¡ti min rabbka

who is sure that you will have more rewards from your Lord,

مُؤْمِنٍ بِالكِتَابِ المُنْزَلِ عَلَيْكَ،

mu´minin bilkit¡bi almunzali `alayka

who believes in the Book that was revealed to you,

مُحَلِّلٍ حَلالَكَ،

mu¦allin ¦al¡laka

who deems lawful all that which you deemed lawful,

مُحَرِّمٍ حَرَامَكَ،

mu¦arrmin ¦ar¡maka

and who deems unlawful all that which you deemed unlawful.

أَشْهَدُ يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ مَعَ كُلِّ شَاهِدٍ،

ash-hadu y¡ ras£la all¡hi ma`a kulli sh¡hidin

O the Messenger of Allah: I bear witness—and I join everyone who bear witness

وَأَتَحَمَّلُهَا عَنْ كُلِّ جَاحِدٍ،

wa ata¦ammluh¡ `an kull j¡¦idin

and also bear witness rather than everyone who may deny it—

أَنَّكَ قَدْ بَلَّغْتَ رِسَالاتِ رَبِّكَ،

annaka qad ballghta ris¡l¡ti rabbka

that you conveyed the messages of your Lord (flawlessly),

وَنَصَحْتَ لأُمَّتِكَ،

wa na¥a¦ta li’ummtika

and you offered your nation good advice,

وَجَاهَدْتَ فِي سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ،

wa j¡hadta f¢ sab¢li rabbka

and you strove in the way of your Lord,

وَصَدَعْتَ بِأَمْرِهِ،

wa ¥ada`ta bi-amrihi

and you expounded openly what you were commanded,

وَاحْتَمَلْتَ الأَذَى فِي جَنْبِهِ،

wa¦tamalta aladh¡ f¢ janbihi

and you stood harm for the sake of Him,

وَدَعَوْتَ إِلَى سَبِيلِهِ بِالحِكْمَةِ وَالمَوْعِظَةِ الحَسَنَةِ الجَمِيلَةِ،

wa da`awta il¡ sab¢lihi bil¦ikmati wal-maw`i¨ati al¦asanati aljam¢lati

and you called to the way of Him with excellent wisdom and fair exhortation,

وَأَدَّيْتَ الحَقَّ الَّذِي كَانَ عَلَيْكَ،

wa addayta al¦aqqa alladhy k¡na `alayka

and you fulfilled the duty with which you were commissioned,

وَأَنَّكَ قَدْ رَؤُفْتَ بِالمُؤْمِنِينَ،

wa annaka qad ra’ufta bilmu´min¢na

and you, verily, were compassionate to the believers,

وَغَلُظْتَ عَلَى الكَافِرِينَ،

wa ghalu¨ta `al¡ alk¡fir¢na

and you were strong against the unbelievers,

وَعَبَدْتَ اللّهَ مُخْلِصاً حَتَّى أَتَاكَ اليَقِينُ،

wa `abadta all¡ha mukhli¥an ¦att¡ at¡ka aliyaq¢nu

and you worshipped Allah sincerely until death came upon you;

فَبَلَغَ اللّهُ بِكَ أَشْرَفَ مَحَلِّ المُكَرَّمِينَ،

fabalagha all¡hu bika ashrafa ma¦all almukarram¢na

therefore, Almighty Allah has exalted you to the most honorable position of the ennobled ones

وَأَعْلَى مَنَازِلِ المُقَرَّبِينَ،

wa a`l¡ man¡zili almuqarrab¢na

and to the most elevated place of the intimate servants of Him

وَأَرْفَعَ دَرَجَاتِ المُرْسَلِينَ حَيْثُ لا يَلْحَقُكَ لاحِقٌ،

wa arfa`a daraj¡ti almursal¢na ¦aythu l¡ yal¦aquka l¡¦iqun

and to the most exalted ranks of the Messengers where none can come up with you,

وَلا يفُوقُكَ فَائِقٌ،

wa l¡ yf£quka f¡’iqun

and none can excel you,

وَلا يَسْبِقُكَ سَابِقٌ،

wa l¡ yasbiquka s¡biqun

and none can overtake you,

وَلاَ يَطْمَعُ فِي إِدْرَاكِكَ طَامِعٌ،

wa la ya§ma`u f¢ idr¡kika §¡mi`un

and none can even think of obtaining your rank.

الحَمْدُ لِلّهِ الَّذِي اسْتَنْقَذَنَا بِكَ مِنَ الهَلَكَةِ،

al¦amdu lill¡hi alladhy astanqadhan¡ bika mina alhalakati

All praise be to Allah Who saved us from perdition through you,

وَهَدَانَا بِكَ مِنَ الضَّلالَةِ،

wa had¡n¡ bika mina al¤¤al¡lati

Who guided us off misdirection through you,

وَنَوَّرَنَا بِكَ مِنَ الظُّلْمَةِ،

wa nawwran¡ bika mina al¨¨ulumati

and Who lit our darkness through you.

فَجَزَاكَ اللّهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ مِنْ مَبْعُوثٍ أَفْضَلَ مَا جَازَى  نَبِيّاً عَنْ أُمَّتِهِ،

fajaz¡ka all¡hu y¡ ras£la all¡hi min mab`£thin af¤ala m¡ j¡z¡ nabiyyan `an ‘ummtihi

O the Messenger of Allah: may Allah reward you, for being His envoy, in the best way that He has ever rewarded a Prophet on behalf of his people

وَرَسُولاً عَمَّنْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِ،

wa ras£lan `amman a’ursila ilayhi

or a Messenger of behalf of those to whom He has sent him.

بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ زُرْتُكَ عَارِفاً بِحَقِّكَ،

bi-aby anta wa ‘ummy y¡ ras£la all¡hi zurtuka `¡rifan bi¦aqqka

May Allah accept my father and my mother as ransoms for you, O the Messenger of Allah. I am visiting you for I acknowledge your right (that is incumbent upon us),

مُقِرّاً بِفَضْلِكَ،

muqirran bifa¤lika

I confess of your superiority,

مُسْتَبْصِراً بِضَلالَةِ مَنْ خَالَفَكَ وَخَالَفَ أَهْلَ بَيْتِكَ،

mustab¥iran bi¤al¡lati man kh¡lafaka wa kh¡lafa ahla baytika

I know for sure about the straying off (from the right path) of those who dissent from you and from your Household,

عَارِفاً بِالهُدَى الَّذِي أَنْتَ عَلَيْهِ،

`¡rifan bilhud¡ alladhy anta `alayhi

and I admit the true guidance that you follow (and lead to).

بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي وَنَفْسِي وَأَهْلِي وَمَالِي وَوَلَدِي،

bi-aby anta wa ‘ummy wa nafsy wa ahly wa m¡l¢ wa walad¢

May Allah accept my father, my mother, me, my family, my property, and my sons as ransoms for you!

أَنَا أُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ كَمَا صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْكَ

an¡ ’u¥ally `alayka kam¡ ¥all¡ all¡hu `alayka

Let me pray (Almighty Allah) for sending blessings upon you as Allah sends blessings upon you

وَصَلَّى عَلَيْكَ مَلائِكَتُهُ وَأَنْبِيَاؤُهُ وَرُسُلُهُ

wa ¥all¡ `alayka mal¡’ikatuhu wa anbiy¡’uhu wa rusuluhu

and as His angels, Prophets, and Messengers pray Him for sending blessings

صَلاةً مُتَتَابِعَةً وَافِرَةً مُتَوَاصِلَةً

¥alatan mutat¡bi`atan w¡firatan mutaw¡¥ilatan

that are consecutive, abundant,

لا انْقِطَاعَ لَهَا وَلا أَمَدَ وَلا أَجَلَ،

l¡ anqi§¡`a lah¡ wa l¡ amada wa l¡ ajala

continuous, incessant, infinite, and unlimited.

صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِكَ الطَّيِّبِينَ الطَّاهِرِينَ كَمَا أَنْتُمْ أَهْلُهُ،

¥all¡ all¡hu `alayka wa `al¡ ahli baytika al§§ayyib¢na al§§¡hir¢na kam¡ antum ahluhu

May Allah send blessings upon you and upon your Household, the pure and immaculate, as much as you deserve.

اللّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ جَوَامِعَ صَلَوَاتِكَ،

all¡humma aj`al jaw¡mi`a ¥alaw¡tika

O Allah: (please do) make You complete blessings,

وَنَوَامِيَ بَرَكَاتِكَ،

wa naw¡miya barak¡tika

Your perfect benedictions,

وَفَوَاضِلَ خَيْرَاتِكَ،

wa faw¡¤ila khayr¡tika

Your most virtuous boons,

وَشَرَائِفَ تَحِيَّاتِكَ وَتَسْلِيمَاتِكَ

wa shar¡’ifa ta¦iyy¡tika wa tasl¢m¡tika

and Your most honorable greetings, salutations,

وَكَرَامَاتِكَ وَرَحَمَاتِكَ،

wa kar¡m¡tika wa ra¦am¡tika

dignities, and mercy,

وَصَلَوَاتِ مَلائِكَتِكَ المُقَرَّبِينَ،

wa ¥alaw¡ti mal¡’ikatika almuqarrab¢na

as well as the blessings of Your intimate angels,

وَأَنْبِيَائِكَ المُرْسَلِينَ،

wa anbiy¡’ika almursal¢na

our commissioned Prophets,

وَأَئِمَّتِكَ المُنْتَجَبِينَ،

wa a’immatika almuntajab¢na

Your elite Imams,

وَعِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ،

wa `ib¡dika al¥¥¡li¦¢na

Your righteous servants,

وَأَهْلِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرَضِينَ،

wa ahli alssam¡w¡ti wal-ara¤¢na

the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth,

وَمَنْ سَبَّحَ لَكَ يَارَبَّ العَالَمِينَ

wa man sabba¦a laka y¡ rabba al`¡lam¢na

and (the blessings of) everyone who glorified You, O Lord of the worlds,

مِنَ الأَوَّلِينَ وَالآخِرِينَ

mina al-awwal¢na wal-¡khir¢na

from the past and the coming generations—

عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ

`al¡ mu¦ammadin `abdika wa ras£lika

make all these pour forth upon Mu¦ammad; Your servant, Your messenger,

وَشَاهِدِكَ وَنَبِيِّكَ

wa sh¡hidika wa nabiyyika

Your witness, Your Prophet,

وَنَذِيرِكَ وَأَمِينِكَ

wa nadh¢rika wa am¢nika

Your warner, Your trustee,

وَمَكِينِكَ وَنَجِيِّكَ

wa mak¢nika wa najiyyika

Your firmly established (in truth), Your confidante,

وَنَجِيبِكَ وَحَبِيبِكَ

wa naj¢bika wa ¦ab¢bika

Your elite, Your most beloved,

وَخَلِيلِكَ وَصَفِيِّكَ

wa khal¢lika wa ¥afiyyika

Your friend, Your choice,

وَصَفْوَتِكَ وَخَاصَّتِكَ

wa ¥afwatika wa kh¡¥¥atika

Your notable, Your elect

وَخَالِصَتِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ

wa kh¡li¥atika wa ra¦matika

Your well-chosen, Your mercy,

وَخَيْرِ خِيَرَتِكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ،

wa khayri khiyaratika min khalqika

the best of Your created beings,

نَبِيِّ الرَّحْمَةِ،

nabiyyi alrra¦mati

the Prophet of mercy,

وَخَازِنِ المَغْفِرَةِ،

wa kh¡zini almaghfirati

the keeper of forgiveness,

وَقَائِدِ الخَيْرِ وَالبَرَكَةِ،

wa q¡’idi alkhayri wal-barakati

the leader to good and blessing,

وَمُنْقِذِ العِبَادِ مِنَ الهَلَكَةِ بِإِذْنِكَ،

wa munqidhi al`ib¡di mina alhalakati bi-idhnika

the savior of the servants (of Almighty Allah) from perdition by Your permission,

وَدَاعِيهِمْ إِلَى دِينِكَ،

wa d¡`¢him il¡ d¢nika

the caller of them to Your religion,

القَيِّمِ بِأَمْرِكَ،

alqayyimi bi-amrika

the custodian by Your order,

أَوَّلِ النَّبِيِّينَ مِيثَاقاً،

awwali alnnabiyy¢na m¢th¡qan

the first Prophet to make the covenant,

وَآخِرِهِمْ مَبْعَثاً،

wa ¡khirihim mab`athan

the last Prophet to be sent (to humanity),

الَّذِي غَمَسْتَهُ فِي بَحْرِ الفَضِيلَةِ،

alladhy ghamastahu f¢ ba¦ri alfa¤¢lati

whom You have immersed in the ocean of virtue,

وَالمَنْزِلَةِ الجَلِيلَةِ،

wal-manzilati aljal¢lati

in the lofty rank,

وَالدَّرَجَةِ الرَّفِيعَةِ،

wal-ddarajati alrraf¢`ati

in the elevated level,

وَالمَرْتَبَةِ الخَطِيرَةِ،

wal-martabati alkha§¢rati

and in the exalted position;

وَأَوْدَعْتَهُ الأَصْلابَ الطَّاهِرَةَ،

wa awda`tahu al-a¥l¡ba al§§¡hirata

and whom You entrusted in the pure loins

وَنَقَلْتَهُ مِنْهَا إِلَى الأَرْحَامِ المُطَهَّرَةِ

wa naqaltahu minh¡ il¡ alar¦¡mi almu§ahharati

and moved to the immaculate wombs

لُطْفاً مِنْكَ لَهُ،

lu§fan minka lahu

out of Your kindness to him

وَتَحَنُّناً مِنْكَ عَلَيْهِ،

wa ta¦annnan minka `alayhi

and Your compassion to him.

إِذْ وَكَّلْتَ لِصَوْنِهِ وَحِرَاسَتِهِ

idh wakkalta li¥awnihi wa ¦ir¡satihi

In order to safeguard, to shield,

وَحِفْظِهِ وَحِيَاطَتِهِ

wa ¦if¨ihi wa ¦iy¡§atihi

to protect, and to defend him,

مِنْ قُدْرَتِكَ عَيْناً عَاصِمَةً

min qudratika `aynan `¡¥imatan

You assigned, out of Your omnipotence, a protective lookout over him

حَجَبْتَ بِهَا عَنْهُ مَدَانِسَ العَهْرِ

¦ajabta bih¡ `anhu mad¡nisa al`ahri

to keep him from the impurities of adultery

وَمَعَائِبَ السِّفَاحِ،

wa ma`¡’iba alssif¡¦i

and from the defects of fornication

حَتَّى رَفَعْتَ بِهِ نَوَاظِرَ العِبَادِ،

¦att¡ rafa`ta bihi naw¡¨ira al`ib¡di

so that You raised the sights of the servants through him

وَأَحْيَيْتَ بِهِ مَيْتَ البِلادِ

wa a¦yayta bihi mayta albil¡di

and You revived the derelict lands

بِأَنْ كَشَفْتَ عَنْ نُورِ وِلادَتِهِ ظُلَمَ الأَسْتَارِ،

bi-an kashafta `an n£ri wil¡datihi ¨ulama alast¡ri

when You removed the screening murks by the light of his birth

وَأَلْبَسْتَ حَرَمَكَ بِهِ حُلَلَ الأَنْوَارِ.

wa albasta ¦aramaka bihi ¦ulala al-anw¡ri

and You dressed Your Holy Precinct the garments of brightness through him.

اللّهُمَّ فَكَمَا خَصَصْتَهُ بِشرَفِ هذِهِ المَرْتَبَةِ الكَرِيمَةِ،

all¡humma fakam¡ kha¥a¥tahu bishrafi hadhihi almartabati alkar¢mati

O Allah: As You have given him exclusively the honor of this noble rank

وَذُخْرِ هذِهِ المَنْقَبَةِ العَظِيمَةِ،

wa dhukhri hadhihi almanqabati al`a¨¢mati

and the privilege of this great merit,

صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ كَمَا وَفَى بِعَهْدِكَ

¥alli `alayhi kam¡ wa f¡ bi`ahdika

(please do) bless him for he fulfilled his covenant to You,

وَبَلَّغَ رِسَالاتِكَ

wa ballagha ris¡l¡tika

he conveyed all Your messages,

وَقَاتَلَ أَهْلَ الجُحُودِ عَلَى تَوْحِيدِكَ،

wa q¡tala ahla alju¦£di `al¡ taw¦¢dika

he fought against the infidels in order to prove Your Oneness,

وَقَطَعَ رَحِمَ الكُفْرِ فِي إِعْزَازِ دِينِكَ،

wa qa§a`a ra¦ima alkufri f¢ i`z¡zi d¢nika

he exterminated the womb of atheism in order to strengthen Your religion,

وَلَبِسَ ثَوْبَ البَلْوَى فِي مُجَاهَدَةِ أَعْدَائِكَ،

wa labisa thawba albalw¡ f¢ muj¡hadati a`d¡’ika

and he dressed himself the garb of misfortune in order to struggle against Your enemies.

وَأَوْجَبْتَ لَهُ بِكُلِّ أَذَىً مَسَّهُ

wa awjabta lahu bikulli adhan massahu

Hence, You have given him as recompense for any harm that inflicted him,

أَوْ كَيْدٍ أَحَسَّ بِهِ

aw kaydin a¦assa bihi

any trickery that he faced

مِنَ الفِئَةِ الَّتِي حَاوَلَتْ قَتْلَهُ

mina alfi’ati allaty ¦¡walat qatlahu

from the faction who tried to assassinate him,

فَضِيلَةً تَفُوقُ الفَضَائِلَ

fa¤¢latan taf£qu alfa¤¡’ila

a merit that excels all other merits

وَيَمْلِكُ بِهَا الجَزِيلَ مِنْ نَوَالِكَ،

wa yamliku bih¡ aljaz¢la min nawalika

and due to which he possessed Your abundant bequests.

وَقَدْ أَسَرَّ الحَسْرَةَ،

wa qad asarra al¦asrata

In return, he hid his sadness

وَأَخْفَى الزَّفْرَةَ،

wa akhf¡ alzzafrata

and concealed his grief

وَتَجَرَّعَ الغُصَّةَ،

wa tajarr`a alghu¥¥ata

and swallowed the pang

وَلَمْ يَتَخَطَّ مَا مَثَّلَ لَهُ وَحْيُكَ.

wa lam yatakha§§a m¡ maththla lahu wa¦yuka

and never did he violate the instructions of Your Revelation.

اللّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ صَلاةً تَرْضَاهَا لَهُمْ،

all¡humma ¥alli `alayhi wa `al¡ ahli baytihi ¥alatan tar¤¡h¡ lahum

O Allah: (please do) send blessings upon him and his Household—blessings that You please for them,

وَبَلِّغْهُمْ مِنَّا تَحِيَّةً كَثِيرَةً وَسَلاماً،

wa balligh-hum minn¡ ta¦iyyatan kath¢ratan wa sal¡man

and convey our abundant greetings and compliments to him,

وَآتِنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ فِي مُوَالاتِهِمْ فَضْلاً وَإِحْسَاناً

wa ¡tin¡ min ladunka f¢ muwal¡tihim fa¤lan wa i¦s¡nan

and give us - from You on account of our loyalty to them - favors, kindness,

وَرَحْمَةً وَغُفْرَاناً

wa ra¦matan wa ghufr¡nan

mercy, and forgiveness.

إِنَّكَ ذُوَالفَضْلِ العَظِيمِ.

innaka dhul-fa¤li al`a¨¢mi

Verily, You are the Lord of great favor.

اللّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ قُلْتَ لِنَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ

all¡humma innaka qulta linabiyyika mu¦ammadin

O Allah: You have said to Your Prophet Mu¦ammad—

صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ:

¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lihi:

may Allah bless him and his Household:

(وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ إِذْ ظَلَمُوَا أَنْفُسَهُمْ

“walaw annahum idh ¨alam£ anfusahum

“And had they, when they were unjust to themselves,

جَاؤُوكَ فَاسْتَغْفَرُوَا اللّهَ

j¡u´£ka fastaghfar£ all¡ha

come to you and asked forgiveness of Allah

وَاسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُمُ الرَّسُولُ

wastaghfara lahumu alrras£lu

and the Messenger had (also) asked forgiveness for them,

لَوَجَدُوَا اللّهَ تَوَّاباً رَحِيماً.)

lawajad£ all¡ha taww¡ban ra¦¢man.”

they would have found Allah Oft-returning (to mercy), Merciful.”

وَلَمْ أَحْضُرْ زَمَانَ رَسُولِكَ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ السَّلامُ.

wa lam a¦¤ur zam¡na ras£lika `alayhi wa ¡lihi assalamu

I was not present at the age of Your Messenger—peace be upon him and his Household.

اللّهُمَّ وَقَدْ زُرْتُهُ رَاغِباً تَائِباً مِنْ سَيِّءِ عَمَلِي،

all¡humma wa qad zurtuhu r¡ghiban t¡’iban min sayyi‘i `amal¢

O Allah: I have visited him desiring, repenting from my ill deeds,

وَمُسْتَغْفِراً لَكَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِي،

wa mustaghfiran laka min dhun£b¢

seeking forgiveness of my sins,

وَمُقِرّاً لَكَ بِهَا وَأَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهَا مِنِّي،

wa muqirran laka bih¡ wa anta a`lamu bih¡ minn¢

confessing of my having committed these sins although You know them more than I do,

وَمُتَوَجِّهاً إِلَيْكَ بِنَبِيِّكَ نَبِيِّ الرَّحْمَةِ

wa mutawajjihan ilayka binabiyyika nabiyyi alrra¦mati

and turning my face to You in the name of Your Prophet, the Prophet of Mercy—

صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

¥alaw¡tuka `alayhi wa ¡lihi

may Your blessings be upon him and his Household.

فَاجْعَلْنِي اللّهُمَّ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ عِنْدَكَ وَجِيهاً

faj`alny all¡humma bimu¦ammadin wa ahli baytihi `indaka wa j¢han

O Allah: in the name of Mu¦ammad and his Household, (please do) make me illustrious

فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ وَمِنَ المُقَرَّبِينَ،

f¢ aldduny¡ wal-¡khirati wa mina almuqarrab¢na

in this world as well as the Next World and one of those brought near to You.

يَا مُحَمَّدُ

y¡ mu¦ammadu

O Mu¦ammad;

يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ

y¡ ras£la all¡hi

O Messenger of Allah;

بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي،

bi-aby anta wa ‘umm¢

may Allah accept my father and mother as ransoms for you!

يَا نَبِيَّ اللّهِ،

y¡ nabiyya all¡hi

O Prophet of Allah;

يَا سَيِّدَ خَلْقِ اللّهِ،

y¡ sayyida khalqi all¡hi

O Master of all created beings of Allah;

إِنِّي أَتَوَجَّهُ بِكَ إِلَى اللّهِ رَبِّكَ وَرَبِّي

inn¢ atawajjahu bika il¡ all¡hi rabbika wa rabby

in Your name do I turn my face to Allah, my and your Lord,

لِيَغْفِرَ لِي ذُنُوبِي،

liyaghfira l¢ dhun£b¢

that He may forgive my sins,

وَيَتَقَبَّلَ مِنِّي عَمَلِي،

wa yataqabbala minny `amal¢

accept my deeds,

وَيَقْضِيَ لِي حَوَائِجِي،

wa yaq¤iya l¢ ¦aw¡’ij¢

and settle my requests;

فَكُنْ لِي شَفِيعاً عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ وَرَبِّي،

fakun l¢ shaf¢`an `inda rabbika wa rabb¢

Therefore, be my interceder before your and my Lord,

فَنِعْمَ المَسْؤُولُ المَوْلَى رَبِّي،

fani`ma almasu´£lu almawl¡ rabb¢

for my Lord, the Master, in the best besought

وَنِعْمَ الشَّفِيعُ أَنْتَ

wa ni`ma alshshaf¢`u anta

and You are the best interceder:

يَا مُحَمَّدُ

y¡ mu¦ammadu

O Mu¦ammad,

عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى أَهْلِ بَيتِكَ السَّلامُ.

`alayka wa `al¡ ahli baytika assalamu

May peace be upon you and upon your Household.

اللّهُمَّ وَأَوْجِبْ لِي مِنْكَ المَغْفِرَةَ وَالرَّحْمَةَ

all¡humma wa awjib l¢ minka almaghfirata wal-rra¦mata

O Allah: (please do) confer upon me with forgiveness, mercy,

وَالرِّزْقَ الوَاسِعَ الطَّيِّبَ النَّافِعَ

wal-rrizqa alw¡si`a al§§ayyiba alnn¡fi`a

and sustenance that is outgoing, good, and beneficial from You

كَمَا أَوْجَبْتَ لِمَنْ أَتَى نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّداً

kam¡ awjabta liman at¡ nabiyyaka mu¦ammadan

in the same way as You conferred upon him who came to Your Prophet, Mu¦ammad, when he was alive

صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

¥alaw¡tuka `alayhi wa ¡lihi

may your blessings be upon him and his Household,

وَهُوَ حَيٌّ فَأَقَرَّ لَهُ بِذُنُوبِهِ،

wa huwa ¦ayyun fa-aqarra lahu bidhun£bihi

and confessed of his sins;

وَاسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُ رَسُولُكَ

wastaghfara lahu ras£luka

therefore, Your Messenger prayed You to forgive him;

عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ السَّلامُ

`alayhi wa ¡lihi assalamu

may your blessings be upon him and his Household,

فَغَفَرْتَ لَهُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.

faghafarta lahu bira¦matika y¡ ar¦ama alrr¡¦im¢na

and You did forgive him out of Your mercy, O the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

اللّهُمَّ وَقَدْ أَمَّلْتُكَ وَرَجَوْتُكَ

all¡humma wa qad ammaltuka wa rajawtuka

O Allah: I now put my hope in You, please You,

وَقُمْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

wa qumtu bayna yadayka

stand before You,

وَرَغِبْتُ إِلَيْكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

wa raghibtu ilayka `amman siw¡ka

desire for You other than anyone else,

وَقَدْ أَمَّلْتُ جَزِيلَ ثَوَابِكَ،

wa qad ammaltu jaz¢la thaw¡bika

hope for Your abundant reward

وَإِنِّي لَمُقِرٌّ غَيْرُ مُنْكِرٍ،

wa inn¢ lamuqirrun ghayru munkirin

while I confess of my sins and I do not deny them,

وَتَائِبٌ إِلَيْكَ مِمَّا اقْتَرَفْتُ،

wa t¡’ibun ilayka mimm¡ aqtaraftu

I repent to You from whatever I have committed,

وَعَائِذٌ بِكَ فِي هذَا المَقَامِ

wa `¡’idhun bika f¢ h¡dh¡ almaq¡mi

and I seek refuge with You from this position

مِمَّا قَدَّمْتُ مِنَ الأَعْمَالِ

mimm¡ qaddamtu mina al-a`m¡li

against the deeds that I have committed

الَّتِي تَقَدَّمْتَ إِلَيَّ فِيهَا وَنَهَيْتَنِي عَنْهَا

allaty taqaddamta ilayya f¢h¡ wa nahaytany `anh¡

although You, firstly, introduced them to me as prohibited, warned me against committing them,

وَأَوْعَدْتَ عَلَيْهَا العِقَابَ،

wa aw`adta `alayh¡ al-`iq¡ba

and threatened me with Your punishment if I would violate.

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَرَمِ وَجْهِكَ

wa a`£dhu bikarami wajhika

And I seek shelter with the nobility of Your Face

أَنْ تُقِيمَنِي مَقَامَ الخِزْيِ وَالذُّلِّ

an tuq¢many maq¡ma alkhizyi wal-dhdhulli

lest You impose upon me the situation of disgrace and humility

يَوْمَ تُهْتَكُ فِيهِ الأَسْتَارُ،

yawma tuhtaku f¢hi alast¡ru

on the day when the veils will be exposed,

وَتَبْدُو فِيهِ الأَسْرَارُ وَالفَضَائِحُ،

wa tabd£ f¢hi al-asr¡ru wal-fa¤¡’i¦u

when the secrets and scandals will be disclosed,

وَتَرْعَدُ فِيهِ الفَرَائِصُ

wa tar`adu f¢hi alfar¡’i¥u

when the muscles will writhe with fear

يَوْمَ الحَسْرَةِ وَالنَّدَامَةِ،

yawma al¦asrati wal-nnad¡mati

on the day of regret and remorse,

يَوْمَ الآفِكَةِ،

yawma al¡fikati

the day of exposing the liars,

يَوْمَ الآزِفَةِ،

yawma al¡zifati

the day of the approaching doom,

يَوْمَ التَّغَابُنِ،

yawma alttgh¡buni

the day of assembling,

يَوْمَ الفَصْلِ،

yawma alfa¥li

the day of separation,

يَوْمَ الجَزَاءِ،

yawma aljaz¡‘i

the day of punishment,

يَوْماً كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ،

yawman k¡na miqd¡ruhu khams¢na alfa sanatin

the day the measure of which is fifty thousand years,

يَوْمَ النَّفْخَةِ،

yawma alnnfkhati

the day of the blowing,

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الرَّاجِفَةُ

yawma tarjufu alrr¡jifatu

the day on which the quaking one shall quake,

تَتْبَعُهَا الرَّادِفَةُ،

tatba`uh¡ alrr¡difatu

followed by oft-repeated commotions,

يَوْمَ النَّشْرِ،

yawma alnnashri

the day of raising the dead,

يَوْمَ العَرْضِ،

yawma al`ar¤i

the day of exposition before the Fire,

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ العَالَمِينَ،

yawma yaq£mu alnn¡su lirabbi al`¡lam¢na

the day when all mankind stand before the Lord of the Worlds,

يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ المَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ

yawma yafirru almar‘u min akh¢hi

 the day when a man flees from his brother,

وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ

wa ‘ummihi wa ab¢hi

his mother, his father,

وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ،

wa ¥¡¦ibatihi wa ban¢hi

his wife, and his children,

يَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ الأَرْضُ وَأَكْنَافُ السَّمَاءِ،

yawma tashaqqaqu al-ar¤u wa akn¡fu alssam¡‘i

the day when the earth and the sides of the heavens will split asunder,

يَوْمَ تَأْتِي كُلُّ نَفْسٍ تُجَادِلُ عَنْ نَفْسِهَا،

yawma ta’ty kullu nafsin tuj¡dilu `an nafsih¡

the day when every soul will come pleading for itself,

يَوْمَ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَى اللّهِ فَيُنَبِّئُهُمْ بِمَا عَمِلُوَا،

yawma yuradd£na il¡ all¡hi fayunabbi’uhum bim¡ `amil£

the day when they will be relegated to Allah Who will inform them of what they did,

يَوْمَ لا يُغْنِي مَوْلَىً عَنْ مَوْلَىً شَيْئاً

yawma l¡ yughny mawlan `an mawlan shay’an

the day when a friend can in naught avail his friend,

وَلا هُمْ يُنْصَرُونَ

wa l¡ hum yun¥ar£na

nor can they be helped

إِلاَّ مَنْ رَحِمَ اللّهُ

ill¡ man ra¦ima all¡hu

save him on whom Allah will have mercy.

إِنَّهُ هُوَ العَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ،

innahu huwa al`az¢zu alrra¦¢mu

Lo! He is the Mighty, the Merciful,

يَوْمَ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَى عَالِمِ الغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ،

yawma yuradd£na il¡ `¡limi alghaybi wal-shshah¡dati

the day when they will be returned to the Knower of the invisible and the visible,

يَوْمَ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَى اللّهِ مَوْلاهُمُ الحَقِّ،

yawma yuradd£na il¡ all¡hi mawl¡humu al¦aqqi

the day when they will be restored to Allah, their Lord, the Just,

يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعاً

yawma yakhruj£na mina al-ajd¡thi sir¡`an

the day when they come forth from the graves in haste,

كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَى نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ

ka-annahum il¡ nu¥ubin y£fi¤£na

as racing to a goal

وَكَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُنْتَشِرٌ

wa ka-annahum jar¡dun muntashirun

and as locusts spreading abroad,

مُهْطِعِينَ إِلَى الدَّاعِي

muh§i`¢na il¡ aldd¡`y

hastening toward the Summoner—

إِلَى اللّهِ

il¡ all¡hi

to Allah,

يَوْمَ الوَاقِعَةِ،

yawma alw¡qi`ati

the day of the event inevitable

يَوْمَ تُرَجُّ الأَرْضُ رَجّاً،

yawma turajju al-ar¤u rajjan

when  the earth will be shaken with a shock,

يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالمُهْلِ

yawma tak£nu alssam¡‘u k¡lmuhli

the day when the sky will become as molten copper

وَتَكُونُ الجِبَالُ كَالعِهْنِ

wa tak£nu aljib¡lu k¡l`ihni

and the hills become as flakes of wool

وَلا يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيماً،

wa l¡ yas’alu ¦am¢mun ¦am¢man

and no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend,

يَوْمَ الشَّاهِدِ وَالمَشْهُودِ،

yawma alshsh¡hidi wal-mash-h£di

the day of the witness and that whereunto he bears testimony,

يَوْمَ تَكُونُ المَلائِكَةُ صَفّاً صَفّاً.

yawma tak£nu almal¡’ikatu ¥affan ¥affan

they day when the angels will come rank on rank.

اللّهُمَّ ارْحَمْ مَوْقِفِي فِي ذلِكَ اليَوْمِ بِمَوْقِفِي فِي هذَا اليَوْمِ،

all¡humma ir¦am mawqify f¢ dhalika aliyawmi bimawqify f¢ h¡dh¡ aliyawmi

O Allah: (please do) have mercy upon my situation on that day (when I will be stopped for interrogation) for my current situation,

وَلا تُخْزِنِي فِي ذلِكَ المَوْقِفِ بِمَا جَنَيْتُ عَلَى نَفْسِي،

wa l¡ tukhziny f¢ dhalika almawqifi bim¡ janaytu `al¡ nafs¢

and do not confound me at that situation for the wrongdoings that I have committed against myself.

وَاجْعَلْ يَارَبِّ فِي ذلِكَ اليَوْمِ مَعَ أَوْلِيَائِكَ مُنْطَلَقِي،

waj`al y¡ rabbi f¢ dhalika aliyawmi ma`a awliy¡’ika mun§alaq¢

O my Lord: (please do) group me, on that day, with Your intimate servants,

وَفِي زُمْرَةِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلامُ مَحْشَرِي،

wa f¢ zumrati mu¦ammadin wa ahli baytihi `alayhimu assalamu ma¦shar¢

and include me with the company of Mu¦ammad and his Household—peace be upon them—

وَاجْعَلْ حَوْضَهُ مَوْرِدِي،

waj`al ¦aw¤ahu mawrid¢

and make the Pool of him (i.e. the Holy Prophet) be my arrival point,

وَفِي الغُرِّ الكِرَامِ مَصْدَرِي،

wa f¢ alghurri alkir¡mi ma¥dar¢

and make me a place among the honorable, white-forehead group,

وَأَعْطِنِي كِتَابِي بِيَمِينِي

wa a`§iny kit¡by biyam¢ny

and give me my Record (of deeds) in my right hand

حَتَّى أَفُوزَ بِحَسَنَاتِي،

¦att¡ af£za bi¦asan¡t¢

so that I will succeed due to my rewards,

وَتُبَيِّضَ بِهِ وَجْهِي،

wa tubayyi¤a bihi wajh¢

and You will make my face white,

وَتُيَسِّرَ بِهِ حِسَابِي،

wa tuyassira bihi ¦is¡b¢

and You will make easy for me my reckoning,

وَتُرَجِّحَ بِهِ مِيزَانِي،

wa turajji¦a bihi m¢z¡n¢

and You will make my pan of the Scale (of deeds) outweigh,

وَأَمْضِيَ مَعَ الفَائِزِينَ

wa am¤iya ma`a alf¡’iz¢na

and I will join the triumphant ones

مِنْ عِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ

min `ib¡dika al¥¥¡li¦¢na

among Your righteous servants

إِلَى رِضْوَانِكَ وَجِنَانِكَ

il¡ ri¤w¡nika wa jin¡nika

to Your Pleasure and gardens of Paradise;

إِلهَ العَالَمِينَ.

il¡ha al`¡lam¢na

O God of the Worlds.

اللّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ أَنْ تَفْضَحَنِي فِي ذلِكَ اليَوْمِ

all¡humma inn¢ a`£dhu bika min an taf¤a¦any f¢ dhalika aliyawmi

O Allah: I do seek Your protection against that You may expose me on that day

بَيْنَ يَدَي الخَلائِقِ بِجَرِيرَتِي،

bayna yaday alkhal¡’iqi bijar¢rat¢

in the presence of Your creatures because of my sins,

أَو أَنْ أَلْقَى الخِزْيَ وَالنَّدَامَةَ بِخَطِيئَتِي،

aw an alq¡ alkhiziya wal-nnad¡mata bikha§yiat¢

or that I may encounter disgrace and regret due to my wrongdoings,

أَوْ أَنْ تُظْهِرَ فِيهِ سَيِّئَاتِي عَلَى حَسَنَاتِي،

aw an tu¨hira f¢hi sayyi’¡ty `al¡ ¦asan¡t¢

or that You may make my evildoings outweigh my good deeds,

أَوْ أَنْ تُنَوِّهَ بَيْنَ الخَلائِقِ بِاسْمِي،

aw an tunawwiha bayna alkhal¡’iqi bism¢

or that You may declare my name as loser amongst Your creatures.

يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ،

y¡ kar¢mu y¡ kar¢mu

O All-generous, O All-generous,

العَفْوَ العَفْوَ،

al`afwa al`afwa

(I beg You for) pardon, (I beg You for) pardon,

السِّتْرَ السِّتْرَ.

alssitra alssitra

(I beg You for) covering (my evildoings), (I beg You for) covering (my evildoings).

اللّهُمَّ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي ذلِكَ اليَوْمِ فِي مَوَاقِفِ الأَشْرَارِ مَوْقِفِي،

all¡humma wa a`£dhu bika min an yak£na f¢ dhalika alyawmi f¢ maw¡qifi al-ashr¡ri mawqif¢

O Allah: I also seek Your protection against including me, on that day, with the line of the evils

أَوْ فِي مَقَامِ الأَشْقِيَاءِ مَقَامِي،

aw f¢ maq¡mi alashqiy¡‘i maq¡m¢

or add me to the row of the wretched ones.

وَإِذَا مَيَّزْتَ بَيْنَ خَلْقِكَ

wa idh¡ mayyazta bayna khalqika

When You shall distinguish between Your creatures

فَسُقْتَ كُلاًًّ بِأَعْمَالِهِمْ

fasuqta kullan bi-a`m¡lihim

and drive each group –according to their deeds-

زُمَراً إِلَى مَنَازِلِهِمْ

zumaran il¡ man¡zilihim

to their final abodes in groups,

فَسُقْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ مَعَ عِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ،

fasuqny bira¦matika `ib¡dika al¥¥¡li¦¢na

(please do) line me up, by Your mercy, with the group of Your righteous servants,

وَفِي زُمْرَةِ أَوْلِيَائِكَ المُتَّقِينَ

wa f¢ zumrati awliy¡’ika almuttaq¢na

and drive me with the group of the Your pious, intimate servants

إِلَى جَنَّاتِكَ يَارَبَّ العَالَمِينَ.

il¡ jann¡tika y¡ rabba al`¡lam¢na

to the gardens of Your Paradise; O Lord of the Worlds.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ،

assalamu `alayka y¡ ras£la all¡hi

Peace be upon you: O the Messenger of Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا البَشِيرُ النَّذِيرُ،

assalamu `alayka ayyuh¡ albash¢ru alnndh¢ru

Peace be upon you; O the conveyor of good tidings (to the believers) and the warner (against Allah’s chastisement).

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا السِّرَاجُ المُنِيرُ،

assalamu `alayka ayyuh¡ alssir¡ju almun¢ru

Peace be upon you; O the light-giving torch.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا السَّفِيرُ بَيْنَ اللّهِ وَبَيْنَ خَلْقِهِ،

assalamu `alayka ayyuh¡ alssf¢ru bayna all¡hi wa bayna khalqihi

Peace be upon you; O the intercessor between Allah and His creatures.

أَشْهَدُ يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ أَنَّكَ كُنْتَ نُوراً فِي الأَصْلابِ الشَّامِخَةِ،

ash-hadu y¡ ras£la all¡hi annaka kunta n£ran f¢ ala¥l¡bi alshsh¡mikhati

I bear witness, O the Messenger of Allah, that You were light in the lofty loins

وَالأَرْحَامِ المُطَهَّرَةِ،

wal-ar¦¡mi almu§ahharati

and purified wombs.

لَمْ تُنَجِّسْكَ الجَاهِلِيَّةُ بِأَنْجَاسِهَا،

lam tunajjska alj¡hiliyyatu bi-anj¡sih¡

The ignorance could not stain you with its impurities

وَلَمْ تُلْبِسْكَ مِنْ مُدْلَهِمَّاتِ ثِيَابِهَا،

wa lam tulbiska min mudlahimm¡ti th¢¡bih¡

or dress you its gloomy garbs.

وَأَشْهَدُ يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ أَنِّي مُؤْمِنٌ بِكَ

wa ash-hadu y¡ ras£la all¡hi ann¢ mu´minun bika

I also bear witness, O the Messenger of Allah, that I have faith in you

وَبِالأَئِمَّةِ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِكَ،

wa bil-a’immati min ahli baytika

and in the Imams from your Household

مُوقِنٌ بِجَمِيعِ مَا أَتَيْتَ بِهِ،

m£qinun bijam¢`i m¡ atayta bihi

and I believe in all that which you have brought.

رَاضٍ مُؤْمِنٌ،

r¡¤in mu´minun

Satisfactorily and faithfully

وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ الأَئِمَّةَ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِكَ أَعْلامُ الهُدَى،

wa ash-hadu ann al-a’immata min ahli baytika a`l¡mu alhud¡

And I bear witness that the Imams from your Household are the signs of (true) guidance,

وَالعُرْوَةُ الوُثْقَى،

wal-`urwatu alwuthq¡

the Firmest Handle,

وَالحُجَّةُ عَلَى أَهْلِ الدُّنْيَا.

wal-¦ujjatu `al¡ ahli aldduny¡

and the arguments against the inhabitants in this world.

اللّهُمَّ لا تَجْعَلْهُ آخِرَ العَهْدِ مِنْ زِيَارَةِ نَبِيِّكَ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ السَّلامُ،

all¡humma l¡ taj`alhu ¡khira al`ahdi min ziy¡rati nabiyyka `alayhi wa ¡lihi assalamu

O Allah: (please) do not make it the last of my pilgrimage to (the tomb of) Your Prophet—peace be upon him and his Household.

وَإِنْ تَوَفَّيْتَنِي فَإِنِّي أَشْهَدُ فِي مَمَاتِي عَلَى مَا أَشْهَدُ عَلَيْهِ فِي حَيَاتِي

wa in tawaff¢tany fa’inn¢ ash-hadu f¢ mam¡ty `al¡ m¡ ash-hadu `alayhi f¢ ¦ay¡ty

If you decide to grasp my soul, I will bear witness in my death, as same as I have born witness in my lifetime,

أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللّهُ لا إِلهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لا شَرِيكَ لَكَ،

annaka anta all¡hu l¡ il¡ha ill¡ anta wa¦daka l¡ shar¢ka laka

that Your are verily Allah; there is no god save You, alone without having any associate,

وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ،

wa ann mu¦ammadan `abduka wa ras£luka

and that Mu¦ammad is Your servant and Messenger,

وَأَنَّ الأَئِمَّةَ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ أَوْلِيَاؤُكَ وَأَنْصَارُكَ

wa ann al-a’immata min ahli baytihi awl¢¡u´uka wa an¥¡ruka

and that the Imams from his Household are Your intimate servants, Your supporters,

وَحُجَجُكَ عَلَى خَلْقِكَ،

wa ¦ujajuka `al¡ khalqika

Your Arguments against Your creatures,

وَخُلَفَاؤُكَ فِي عِبَادِكَ،

wa khulaf¡u´uka f¢ `ib¡dika

Your representatives amongst Your servants,

وَأَعْلامُكَ فِي بِلادِكَ،

wa a`l¡muka f¢ bil¡dika

Your sings in Your lands,

وَخُزَّانُ عِلْمِكَ،

wa khuzz¡nu `ilmika

the custodians of Your knowledge,

وَحَفَظَةُ سِرِّكَ،

wa ¦afa¨atu sirrka

the keepers of Your secret,

وَتَرَاجِمَةُ وَحْيِكَ.

wa tar¡jimatu wa¦yika

and the interpreters of Your Revelation.

اللّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ mu¦ammadin wa ¡li mu¦ammadin

O Allah: (please do) send blessings upon Mu¦ammad and the Household of Mu¦ammad

وَبَلِّغْ رُوحَ نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ فِي سَاعَتِي هذِهِ وَفِي كُلِّ سَاعَةٍ تَحِيَّةً مِنِّي وَسَلاماً،

wa balligh r£¦a nabiyyika mu¦ammadin wa ¡lihi f¢ s¡`aty hadhihi wa f¢ kull s¡`atin ta¦iyyatan minny wa sal¡man

and convey greetings and compliments from me to the souls of Your Prophet, Mu¦ammad, and his Household at this very hour as well as all times.

وَالسَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

wa assalamu `alayka y¡ ras£la all¡hi wa ra¦matu all¡hi wa barak¡tuhu

O the Messenger of Allah: peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you.

لا جَعَلَهُ اللّهُ آخِرَ تَسْلِيمِي عَلَيْكَ.

l¡ ja`alahu all¡hu ¡khira tasl¢my `alayka

Allah may not decide this compliment of me to be the last.
