Peace be on you, O the inheritor of Nooh, the chosen one of Allah. Peace be on you, O the inheritor of Ibrahim, the friend of Allah. Peace be on you, O the inheritor of Moosa, the one who conversed with Allah. Peace be on you, O the inheritor of Isa, the spirit of Allah. Peace be on you, O the inheritor of Mohammad, the leader of the Apostles of Allah. Peace be on you, O the chief of the believers. Peace be on you, O the leader of pious Peace be on you, O the chief of the vicegerents Peace be on you, O the vicegerent of the Apostle of the Lord of the Universe. Peace be on you, O the inheritor of the knowledge of the first and the last. Peace be on you, O the great news. Peace be on you, O the straight path. Peace be on you, O the cultured, the noble. Peace be on you, O the pious vicegerent Peace be on you, O the satisfied, chaste. Peace be on you, O the radiant light. Peace be on you, O the most truthful. Peace be on you, O the greatest distinguisher between good and evil. Peace be on you, O the dazzling lamp. Peace be on you, O the leader of guidance. Peace be on you, O the standard of piety. Peace be on you, O the greatest proof of Allah. Peace be on you, O the distinguished one of Allah and His sincere servant and the trustee of Allah and His chosen one and the Door of Allah and His Proof and the mine of the order of Allah and His secrets and the treasure of the knowledge of Allah and His safe-keeper and the representative of Allah in His creation. I bear witness that surely you established the prayer and gave the poor-rate and enjoined the good and forbade the evil and you obeyed the Apostle and you recited the Book as it ought to be recited and you conveyed (the message) from Allah's side and observed the covenant of Allah and through you, the words of Allah were completed, and you fought in the way of Allah as it ought to be and you advised for the sake of Allah and His Apostle, Blessings of Allah be on him and his progeny and you offered sacrificed of your own self while you were patient and considerate, fighting in the defence of the religion of Allah, protecting, the Apostle of Allah, seeking what is near Allah, inclined towards what Allah has promised and you passed away in the religion you practiced as a martyr and a witness and a witnessed one. Then may Allah grant you from the side of His Apostle and Islam and its adherents and the truthful ones, the best of recompense. I bear witness that among the people you were the foremost in Islam and the most sincere in faith and most convinced in certitude and the most fearful of Allah and the most endurant of calamities and the most protective of the Apostle of Allah, Blessings of Allah be on him and his progeny and the greatest in virtues and the most excessive in nobility and the highest in grade and most honoured in position and the most esteemed. You remained brave when everyone else became coward and you remained adhered to the course laid down by the Apostle of Allah, Blessings of Allah be on him and his progeny and I bear witness that you were truly his caliph and there is absolutely no dispute in it despite the reluctance of the hypocrites and the wrath of the disbelievers and the grudge of the transgressors and you established the affair when people were slack and you spoke when they became dumb and you continued to walk along with the light of Allah when they had halted, the one who follows you has surely attained guidance. You were the foremost in speech, the most severe in encounters (with the enemy), the most correct in conversation and the most convinced in opinion and the bravest of hearts and the greatest in certitude and the best in action and the most cognizant of the affairs. You are a compassionate father of the believers. They were included in your family, then you shouldered their responsibilities which they could not cope up with, and you protected for them what they had wasted, and you guarded over what they had left behind, you were firm when they expressed fear and you showed determination when they were apprehensive, and you were patient when they were crying out for help. You were a severe retribution and a painful punishment for the unbelievers while for the believers you were a rain-shower, greenery and knowledge, your proof was not subdued and neither was your heart straitened and nor was your vision weakened nor was you afraid. You were like a mountain which even strong winds could not ruffle nor could thunder storm move it. You were as the Apostle of Allah said, Blessings of Allah be on him and his progeny. 'Strong of body, humble of soul, esteemed near Allah, elevated in the earth and esteemed in the heavens. None could slander you nor could anyone hint (regarding any defect) at you, nor could any hopeful from the creation aspire for your position nor has anyone obliged you. You considered a weak and lowly person as powerful and honoured one till the time you take his right due to him and you considered a powerful and honoured one as a weak and lowly person till you snatch away the (usurped) right from him. The close and the distant were both equal in your eyes you are rightful, truthful and friendly in character. You saying is truth and prevalent. Your opinion is knowledge and resolutions. The religion became firm due to you and the difficult things became easy because of you and through you the fire has been extinguished and faith has been strengthened on account of you, and Islam is established due to you. Your calamity has wrecked humanity. Then to Allah we belong and unto Him shall we return. May Allah curse those who killed you and may Allah curse those who oppossed you and may Allah curse those who maligned you and may Allah curse those who oppressed you and usurped your right and may Allah curse those whom all these have been conveyed and yet they are agreeable to it. Surely we disassociate ourselves from them in front of Allah. May Allah curse the people who opposed you and denied your mastership and rose against you and fought with you and prevented people from associating with you and forsook you. All Praise be to Allah, the One who made Hell-fire as their abode and it is indeed a very evil place to enter. I bear witness for you, O the friend of Allah and the friend of His Apostle Blessings of Allah be on him and his progeny concerning conveyance (of religion) and observance (of first) I bear witness that you are a loved one of Allah and His door and that you are a side of Allah and His Face though which He is approached and that You are the path of Allah and that you are the servant of Allah and the brother of His Apostle, Blessings of Allah be on him and his progeny. I have come to you as a visitor due to your great status and position near Allah and His Apostle I seek proximity towards Allah though your visitation. I am desirous of your intercession. I seek my deliverance of through your intercession. I seek protection from Hell fire through you. I run away to you, fearful from my sins which I have burdened on my back. I come to you expectant of the Mercy of my Lord. I seek your intercession, O my master, before Allah and I seek proximity to Him through you so that He may grant me my needs because of you. Then intercede for me. O the leader of the faithful, before Allah, for surely I am a servant of Allah and your slave and your visitor and you have a famed position and a high status and a great position and an accepted intercession near Allah. O Allah, bless Mohammad and the progeny of Mohammad and bless Your servant and Your most loyal trustee and Your strongest rope and Your lofty hand and Your most beautiful words and Your proof over the mankind and your greatest testifier, the leader of the vicegerents and the pillar of the representatives and the support of the chosen ones. The leader of the faithful and the chief of the pious and the guide of the truthful and the leader of the righteous, the infallible protected from mistakes and abstained one from flaws and one free from defects and purified from doubts, the brother of Your Prophet and the vicegerent of Your Apostle, The one who slept on his bed, and defended him by his own soul and removed his difficulties, the one whom You have made as a word of his Prophet and a miracle for His Apostleship and a clear proof for his argument and the upholder of his flag and the defender of his life and a guide for his nation and a support for his fortitude and a crown upon his head and a door for his aid and a key for his victory to the extent that he vanquished the army of polytheism by Your support and destroyed the solders of disbelief by Your command and sacrificed his life for Your satisfaction and that of Your Apostle and made it an endourment upon obedience and a pivot for calamities to the extent that The Apostle, Blessings of Allah on him and his progeny, passed away in his hands and he annointed his face with the coldness of the Apostle's body and the angels assisted him in bathing the holy body of the Apostle and his burial, then he prayed over him and laid his body in the grave and discharged his debts and fulfilled his promise and adhered to his covenant and followed in his footstep and guarded his will and when he found helpless he rose up, independently, to carry on with the burden of caliphate and the leadership of the Nation. Then he set up flag of guidance among Your servants and spread the cloak of security in Your cities and he spread Justice among Your creatures and he Judged according to Your book among Your creation and he established the penal code and bridled disbelief and he resisted spite and he silenced mischief and eradicated feebleness and he put a end to breach and he fought against those who were disloyal, transgressors and the appositive and he always toed the path of the Apostle of Allah, Blessings of Allah be on him and his progeny and his manness and his grace and his beautiful conduct. He followed his traditions and remained attach to his determination and remained on his path and considered the character of the Apostle as a model before his eyes and admonished people towards it and called them to it till the your beard was dyed with the blood of your head O Allah, just as he did not give reference to skepticism over certainty in matter of Your obedience and did not associate any one with You even for the twinkling of an eye, bless him with a pure and ever-growing salutation so that, through it, he may attain the rank of prophethood in Your Paradise and convey to him, from us, greetings and salutation and grant us from Your side, concerning his mastership, grace and goodness and forgiveness and satisfaction. Surely You are the passion of abundant grace, Your mercy, O the most merciful of all those who show mercy. Dua after Ziyarat O Allah! Surely You have conveyed to me the glad tidings on the tongue of Your Prophet and Your Apostle Mohammed Your Blessings be upon him and his progeny then You have said : Then give glad tidings to those who believe that for them is a footing of truth near their Lord. O Allah! And I believe in all Your Prophets and Your Apostles then do not make me stop, after my recognition of them, through a place where you disgrace me in front of the witnesses. Rather you make me halt with them and grant me death while I still testify to them. O Allah! And You have distinguished them by Your honour and have ordered me for their following, O Allah! And surely I am Your servant and Your visitor, I seek Your proximity through the visitation of the brother of Your Apostle and through every person who is approached and visited. There is a right for every one who comes and visits and You are the best of those who are attended to and the most honourable of those who are visited. Then I beseech You, O Allah! O Beneficent, O Merciful, O Generous, O Glorious, O Unique, O Needless, O the One Who does not beget nor is begotten and there is none like Him and He does not have a spouse nor a son that You bless Mohammad and the progeny of Mohammad and grant me as a gift for the visitation of the brother of Your Apostle my deliverance from Hell fire and include us among them who hasten toward good deeds and call You in yearning and fear and make me among those who are humble in front of You. O Allah, surely You have obliged me by giving me the opportunity of visiting my master, Ali, son of Abu Talib and his mastership and recognition. Then include me from those who aid him and seek help from him and oblige me by (lending me) Your help in The matters of Your religion. O Allah make me from his adherents and make me die on his religion. O Allah! Make obligatory from me mercy and satisfaction and forgiveness and goodness and pure, lawful and abundant sustenance which befits You, O the most merciful of all those who show mercy. And all praise is for Allah, the Lord of the Universe. It is mentioned that on the day of martyrdom of Ameerul Momineen, Hazrat Khizr (a.s.) came crying and running , saying INNA LILLAAHE .... and said at the door of Ammerul Momineen thus : May Allah have mercy on you, O Abul Hasan, you are the first of the people to submit and the most sincere in faith and the most strong in certitude and the most god-fearing. |
Dua after Ziyarat
|
Shaykh al-Muf¢d, Sayyid Ibn ±¡w£s, and al-Shah¢d have mentioned that the following form of ziy¡rah of Imam `Al¢ (a.s) at the twenty-seventh night of Rajab is recommended:
When you intend to visit the holy mausoleum of Imam `Al¢ Am¢r al-Mu'min¢n (a.s) on the Divine Mission Day or the night before it, you may stop at the gate of the holy dome, facing the holy tomb, and say the following:
أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلهَ إِلاّ اللّهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، |
ash-hadu an l¡ il¡ha ill¡ all¡hu wa¦dahu l¡ shar¢ka lahu |
I bear witness that there is no god save Allah, alone without having any associate. |
wa ash-hadu ann mu¦ammadan `abduhu wa ras£luhu |
And I bear witness that Mu¦ammad is His servant and messenger, |
And that `Al¢ ibn Ab¢-±¡lib, the commander of the believers, is the brother of His Messenger, |
wa anna al-a’immata al§§¡hir¢na min wuldihi ¦ujaju all¡hi `al¡ khalqihi |
And that the immaculate Imams from his offspring are Allah’s arguments against His creatures. |
You may then enter the mausoleum, stop at the tomb, turn the face toward the tomb and make the kiblah direction between your shoulders, and repeat the takb¢r statement on hundred times:
Allah is the Greatest |
all¡hu akbaru |

wa ma¤ayta lilldhy kunta `alayhi shah¢dan |
You also sealed your life as martyr, |
wa sh¡hidan wa mashh£dan |
And as witness and as witnessed; |
fajaz¡ka all¡hu `an ras£lihi wa `ani alisl¡mi wa ahlihi min ¥idd¢qin af¤ala aljaz¡‘i |
So, may Allah reward you on behalf of His Messenger and Islam and the people of Islam with the most favorite reward. |
ash-hadu annaka kunta awwala alqawmi isl¡man |
I bear witness that you were the first to embrace Islam, |
wa akhla¥ahum ‘¢m¡nan |
And you were the most sincere in faith, |
wa ashaddhum yaq¢nan |
And you were the most confident, |
wa akhwafahum lill¡hi |
And you were the most Allah-fearing, |
wa a`¨amahum `an¡‘an |
And you were the most steadfast (against ordeals for the sake of Islam) |
wa a¦wa§ahum `al¡ ras£li all¡hi ¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lihi |
And you were the most watchful for Allah’s Messenger—peace be upon him and his Household, |
wa af¤alahum man¡qiba |
And you were endowed with the most favorable merits, |
wa aktharahum saw¡biqa |
And you were the foremost of everyone else in everything, |
wa arfa`ahum darajatan |
And you were the owner of the most elevated rank, |
wa ashrafahum manzilatan |
And you were the owner of the most honorable position, |
wa akramahum `alayhi |
And you were the most respected (by Almighty Allah and His Messenger). |
faqaw¢ta ¦¢na wa hanw¡ |
Thus, you became stronger when they became weak, |
wa lazimta minh¡ja ras£li all¡hi ¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lihi |
And you abode by the course of Allah’s Messenger—peace be upon him and his Household. |
wa ash-hadu annaka kunta khal¢fatahu ¦aqqan |
I also bear witness that you were the true vicegerent of him (i.e. the Holy Prophet); |
lam tun¡za` biraghmi almun¡fiq¢na |
No one could ever compete with you in this position in spite of the existence of hypocrites, |
wa ghay¨i alk¡fir¢na |
The despise of the unbelievers, |
wa ¤ighni alf¡siq¢na |
And the malice of the wicked. |
wa qumta bilamri ¦¢na fashilw¡ |
You also managed the matters when they failed to do so, |
wa na§aqta ¦¢na tata`ta`w¡ |
And you spoke (the truth) when they stammered, |
wa ma¤ayta bin£ri all¡hi idh wa qafw¡ |
And you carried on with the light of Allah when they stopped. |
famani attba`aka faqadi ahtad¡ |
Hence, he who follows you has actually been led to the true guidance. |
kunta awwalahum kal¡man |
You were the first to speak, |
wa ashaddhum khi¥¡man |
And you were the firmest in refuting the rivals, |
wa a¥wabahum man§iqan |
And you were the most eloquent of them, |
wa asaddhum raiyan |
And you were the most apposite in opinions, |
wa ashja`ahum qalban |
And you were the most courageous, |
wa aktharahum yaq¢nan |
And you were the most confident of them, |
wa a¦sanahum `amalan |
And you were the best of them in deeds, |
wa a`rafahum bila’um£ri |
And you were the most learned in affairs. |
kunta lilmu´min¢na aban ra¦¢man |
For the believers, you were merciful father, |
idh ¥¡r£ `alayka `y¡lan |
And they were thus your dependants; |
fa¦amalta athq¡la m¡ `anhu ¤a`ufw¡ |
So, you carried the burdens that they were too weak to carry, |
wa ¦afi¨ta m¡ a¤¡`£ |
And you preserved that which they forfeited, |
wa ra`ayta m¡ ahmal£ |
And you conserved that which they neglected, |
wa shammarta idh jaban£ |
And you prepared yourself for facing that which they were too coward to face, |
wa `alawta idh hala`£ |
And you advanced when they were dismayed, |
wa ¥abarta idh jaza`£ |
And you acted steadfastly when they became anxious. |
You were thus incessant torment on the unbelievers, |
wa ghil¨atan wa ghay¨an |
And you were also rude and furious (on them), |
And you rained (with mercy) on the believers, and you were fertile and source of knowledge for them. |
lam tuflal ¦ujjatuka |
Your argument was never weak, |
wa lam yazigh qalbuka |
And your heart never deviated, |
wa lam ta¤`uf ba¥¢ratuka |
And your sagacity was never feeble, |
wa lam tajbun nafsuka |
And your determination never cowered. |
kunta k¡ljabali l¡ tu¦arriuhu al`aw¡¥ifu |
You were as firm as mountain, as storms could never displace you, |
wa l¡ tuz¢luhu alqaw¡¥ifu |
And misfortunes could never move you. |
kunta kam¡ q¡la ras£lu all¡hi ¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lihi qawiyyan f¢ badanika |
You were as same as described by Allah’s Messenger—peace be upon him and his Household—who said about you that you are strong in your body, |
mutaw¡¤i`an f¢ nafsika |
And modest in yourself, |
`a¨¢man `inda all¡hi |
And great in the view of Allah, |
kab¢ran f¢ alar¤i |
And imposing in the earth, |
jal¢lan f¢ alssam¡‘i |
And lofty in the heavens. |
lam yakun lia¦adin f¢ka mahmazun |
None could ever find fault with you, |
wa l¡ liq¡’ilin f¢ka maghmazun |
And none could ever speak evil of you, |
wa l¡ likhalqin f¢ka ma§ma`un |
And you never desired for any of the created beings, |
wa l¡ lia¦adin `indaka haw¡datum |
And you were never lenient (unfairly) to anyone. |
y£jadu al¤¤a`¢fu aldhdhal¢lu `indaka qawiyyan `az¢zan ¦att¡ takhudha lahu bi¦aqqhi |
The weak, humble one was strong and mighty in your view until you give him back his right, |
wal-qawiyyu al`az¢zu `indaka ¤a`¢fan ¦att¡ takhudha minhu al¦aqqa |
And the strong, mighty one was weak in your view until you take the others’ rights from him. |
The near and the remote were equal in your view. |
shanuka al¦aqqu wal-¥¥idqu wal-rrifqu |
You habit was to be right, honest, and kind, |
wa qawluka ¦ukmun wa ¦atmun |
And your words were ruling and determination, |
wa amruka ¦ilmun wa `azmun |
And your custom was forbearance and fortitude, |
wa ra¢uka `ilmun wa ¦azmun |
And your view was knowledge and firmness. |
i`tadala bika aldd¢nu |
At your hands did the religion become even, |
wa sahula bika al`as¢ru |
And the difficult became easy, |
wa a’u§f¢’at bika alnn¢r¡nu |
And fires were extinguished, |
wa qawiya bika al’¢m¡nu |
And by you did faith become strong, |
wa thabata bika alisl¡mu |
And by you did Islam became steady, |
wa haddat mu¥¢batuka alan¡ma |
And the calamity of losing you undermined all people, |
fa’inn¡ lill¡hi wa inn¡ ilayhi r¡ji`£na |
Surely, we are Allah's and to Him we shall surely return. |
la`ana all¡hu man qatalaka |
Curse of Allah be upon him who slew you, |
wa la`ana all¡hu man kh¡lafaka |
And curse of Allah be upon him who mutinied against you, |
wa la`ana all¡hu mani aftar¡ `alayka |
And curse of Allah be upon him who forged lies against you, |
wa la`ana all¡hu man ¨alamaka wa gha¥abaka ¦aqqaka |
And curse of Allah be upon him who wronged you and usurped your right, |
wa la`ana all¡hu man balaghahu dhalika fara¤iya bihi |
And curse of Allah be upon him who, when was informed about this, was pleased with it. |
inn¡ il¡ all¡hi minhum bur¡‘u |
Verily, we disavow those before Allah. |
la`ana all¡hu ‘ummatan kh¡lafatka |
Curse of Allah be upon the group that disagreed with you, |
wa ja¦adat wil¡iyataka |
And denied your (Divinely commissioned) leadership, |
wa ta¨¡harat `alayka wa qatalatka |
And aided each other against you and slew you, |
wa ¦¡dat `anka wa khadhalatka |
And deviated from you and disappointed you. |
al¦amdu lill¡hi alladhy ja`ala alnn¡ra mathw¡hum |
All praise be to Allah, for Hellfire is the abode of those, |
wa bi’sa alwirdu almawr£du |
And evil the place to which they are brought. |
ash-hadu laka y¡ waliyy all¡hi wa waliyy ras£lihi ¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lihi bilbal¡ghi wal-ad¡‘i |
I bear witness for you, O the Intimate servant of Allah and the loyal to Allah’s Messenger—peace be upon him and his Household—that you did convey and carry out (your mission). |
wa ash-hadu annaka ¦ab¢bu all¡hi wa b¡buhu |
And I bear witness that you are the beloved of Allah and door to Him, |
wa annaka janbu all¡hi wa wajhuhu alladhy minhu yu´t¡ |
And you are the Side of Allah and His Face from which one can come to Allah, |
wa annaka sab¢lu all¡hi |
And you are Allah’s way, |
wa annaka `abdu all¡hi |
And you are Allah’s servant, |
wa akhw ras£lihi ¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lihi |
And the brother of His Messenger—peace be upon him and his Household. |
ataytuka z¡’iran li`a¨¢mi ¦¡lika wa manzilatika `inda all¡hi wa `inda ras£lihi |
I have thus come to visit you because you enjoy a magnificent position and standing with Allah and with His Messenger, |
mutaqarriban il¡ all¡hi biziy¡ratika |
So, I seek nearness to Allah through my visiting you, |
r¡ghiban ilayka f¢ alshshaf¡`ati |
And I desire that you will intercede for me, |
abtaghy bishaf¡`atika khal¡¥a nafs¢ |
Through your intercession for me, I hope for redemption of myself, |
muta`awwidhan bika mina alnn¡ri |
And I seek refuge with you against Hellfire, |
h¡riban min dhun£biya allaty a¦ta§abtuh¡ `al¡ ¨ahr¢ |
And I am fleeing from my sins that I have overburdened myself with them, |
fazi`an ilayka raj¡‘a ra¦mati rabb¢ |
And I resort to you in the hope of my Lord’s mercy. |
ataytuka astashfi`u bika y¡ mawl¡ya il¡ all¡hi |
I have come to you, O my master, seeking your intercession for me before Allah, |
wa ataqarrabu bika ilayhi liyaq¤iya bika ¦aw¡’ij¢ |
And seeking nearness to Him through you so that He may settle my needs; |
f¡shfa` l¢ y¡ am¢ra almu´min¢na |
So, (please) intercede for me, O the commander of the believers. |
fa’inn¢ `abdu all¡hi wa mawl¡ka wa z¡’iruka |
Verily, I am the slave of Allah and your servant and visitor, |
wa laka `inda all¡hi almaq¡mu alma`l£mu |
And you enjoy a distinguished position with Allah, |
wal-j¡hu al`a¨¢mu |
And a great rank, |
wal-shsha’nu alkab¢ru |
And a big standing, |
wal-shshaf¡`atu almaqb£latu |
And an admitted right of intercession. |
all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ mu¦ammadin wa ¡li mu¦ammadin |
O Allah: (please do) send blessings upon Mu¦ammad and the Household of Mu¦ammad, |
wa ¥alli `al¡ `abdika wa am¢nika alawf¡ |
And send blessings upon Your servant and Your most faithful trustee, |

And Your firmest handle, |

And Your highest Hand, |

And Your excellent Word, |
wa ¦ujjatika `al¡ alwar¡ |
And Your argument on the people, |
wa ¥idd¢qika alakbari |
And Your grandest veracious one, |
sayyidi alaw¥y¡‘i |
The chief of the Prophets’ successors, |
wa rukni alawly¡‘i |
And the reliance of the saints, |
wa `im¡di ala¥f¢¡‘i |
And the support of the elite ones, |
am¢rilmu´min¢na |
And the commander of the believers, |

And the leader of the pious ones, |

And the example of the veracious ones, |
wa im¡mi al¥¥¡li¦¢na |
And the pattern of the righteous ones, |

The one protected against flaws, |
wal-maf§£mi mina alkhalali |
And the one saved from defects, |
wal-muhadhdhabi mina al`aybi |
And the one cleared from faults, |
wal-mu§ahhari mina alrraybi |
And the one purified from doubts: |
akhy nabiyyika |
The brother of Your Prophet, |
wa wa¥iyyi ras£lika |
And the successor of Your Messenger, |
wal-b¡’iti `al¡ fir¡shihi |
And the one who replaced him by spending the night on his bed |
wal-mw¡sy lahu binafsihi |
And the one who sacrificed his soul for him, |
wa k¡shifi alkarbi `an wa jhihi |
And the one who always relieved him in harsh situations, |
alladhy ja`altahu sayfan linubuwwatihi |
The one whom You chose to be the sword of his (i.e. the Prophet) Prophethood |
wa mu`jizan liris¡latihi |
And to be the miracle of his (Divine) mission, |
wa dal¡latan w¡¤i¦atan li¦ujjatihi |
And to be the lucid indication to his arguments, |
wa ¦¡milan lir¡iyatihi |
And to be the bearer of his pennon, |
wa wiq¡iyatan limuhjatihi |
And to be the protector of his soul, |
wa h¡diyan li’ummtihi |
And to be the guide of his nation, |
wa yadan liba’sihi |
And to be the power of his might, |
wa t¡jan lira’sihi |
And to be the crown of his head, |
wa b¡ban lina¥rihi |
And to be the door to his victory, |
wa mift¡¦an li¨afarihi |
And to be the key to his triumph |
¦att¡ hazama jun£da alshshirki bi-aydika |
Until he defeated the armies of polytheism by Your aid, |
wa ab¡da `as¡kira alkufri bi-amrika |
And he terminated the warriors of atheism by Your permission, |
wa badhala nafsahu f¢ mar¤¡tika wa mar¤ati ras£lika |
And he exerted all efforts in the pleasure of You and of Your Messenger, |
wa ja`alah¡ wa qfan `al¡ §¡`atihi |
And he devoted all his efforts to the obedience of him, |
wa majinnan d£na nakbatihi |
And he made of himself armor to protect him from any misfortune, |
¦att¡ f¡¤at nafsuhu ¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lihi f¢ kaffihi |
Until the soul of the Prophet—peace be upon him and his Household—departed his body while his face was in the hand of `Al¢, |
wastalaba bardah¡ |
Who thus felt its coldness, |
wa masa¦ahu `al¡ wajhihi |
And he rubbed his face therewith, |
wa a`¡nathu mal¡’ikatuka `al¡ ghuslihi wa tajh¢zihi |
And Your angels helped him bathe and prepare his body for burial, |
wa ¥all¡ `alayhi wa w¡r¡ shakh¥ahu |
And he then offered prayer for him and buried his body, |
wa qa¤¡ daynahu |
And then settled his debts, |
wa anjaza wa`dahu |
And fulfilled his promises, |
wa lazima `ahdahu |
And made his covenants, |
wa¦tadh¡ mith¡lahu |
And followed his example, |
wa ¦afi¨a wa¥iyyatahu |
And abode by his will. |
wa ¦¢na wa jada an¥¡ran naha¤a mustaqillan bi-a`b¡‘i alkhil¡fati |
And when he could find supporters, he undertook burdens of the position of leadership (caliphate), |
mu¤§ali`an bi-athq¡li alim¡mati |
And assumed the loads of Imamate. |
fana¥aba r¡iyata alhud¡ f¢ `ib¡dika |
He thus hoisted the flag of true guidance among Your servants, |
wa nashara thawba alamni f¢ bil¡dika |
And he spread the dress of security in Your lands, |
wa basa§a al`adla f¢ bariyyatika |
And he extended justice among Your creatures, |
wa ¦akama bikit¡bika f¢ khal¢qatika |
And he judged according to Your Book among your beings, |
wa aq¡ma al¦ud£da |
And he executed the laws, |
wa qama`a alju¦£da |
And he suppressed unbelief, |
wa qawwama alzzaygha |
And he rectified the deviation, |
wa sakkana alghamrata |
And he mollified the criticism, |
wa ab¡da alfatrata |
And he eradicated lethargy, |
wa sadda alfurjata |
And he blocked the gap, |
wa qatala alnn¡kithata wal-q¡si§ata wal-m¡riqata |
And he killed the preachers, the wrongdoers, and the apostates, |
wa lam yazal `al¡ minh¡ji ras£li all¡hi ¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lihi wa wat¢ratihi |
And he kept on following the course and tradition of Allah’s Messenger—peace be upon him and his Household, |
wa lu§fi sh¡kilatihi |
And kept on following his excellent pattern, |

Ab£-`Abdull¡h Mu¦ammad ibn Ba§§£§ah, a famous Arab writer and explorer, who lived six centuries ago and is considered one of the Sunnite scholars mentions the holy mausoleum of our master Imam `Al¢ Am¢r al-Mu'min¢n (a.s) in his famous book comprising all his views and adventures during his journeys, entitled ‘Ri¦lat Ibn Ba§§£§ah’. In this book, he mentions that in his way back from Holy Makkah, he passed by the holy city of Najaf. He further says, “All the inhabitants of this city are R¡f¢¤iyyah.([1]) This mausoleum (of Imam `Al¢) has shown many miraculous signals. One of these miraculous signs is that at the twenty-seventh night of Rajab, which is called ‘laylat al-ma¦y¡ (The Night of Staying Up) by them, handicapped individuals from Iraq, Khur¡s¡n, Persia, and even Rome are gathered near the holy mausoleum. As they become thirty or forty persons, they are placed above the holy tomb after offering the `Ish¡' Prayer while people are waiting how they would stand up sound and healthy. As they are engaged with prayers, invocations, supplications, and recitations of the Holy Qur'¡n, all those handicapped people stand up sound and healthy at nearly midnight, shouting, ‘There is no god save Allah; Mu¦ammad is the Messenger of Allah; and `Al¢ is the Intimate Saint of Allah.’
This fact is beyond dispute for them. I have heard it from trustworYour people. Although I have not presented myself there at that night, I have met, in the School of Guests, three handicapped men from Rome, I¥fah¡n, and Khur¡s¡n. When I asked them, they answered that they missed the night of the twenty-seventh of Rajab; therefore, they were waiting for the next year so as to witness the night.
This Night of Staying Up gathers a huge number of people who establish a great market (trade fair) that lasts for ten days.”
As a matter of fact, one must not disbelieve such reports. The miraculous matters that have been shown at these holy mausoleums are innumerable. They have been reported to me through authentically uninterrupted ways of narrating. The most recent of these miracles occurred in Shaww¡l, AH 1340 when all the people witnessed an undeniable miraculous signal from the holy mausoleum of our Imam, the eighth of the Guiding Imams, `Al¢ ibn M£s¡ al-Ri¤¡ (a.s), the hope of the disobedient ones. Three hemiplegic women besought Almighty Allah in the holy shrine of Imam al-Ri¤¡ (a.s) after the physicians had despaired of their recovery. Immediately, their recovery was manifested before the sights of all the attendants at the holy shrine as obviously as sunlight. It has been further reported that everybody submitted to this miraculous recovery including the physicians, who had known the reality of these women’s states, after they investigated the matter so accurately. Some of them, however, wrote the history of this event in a book so as to convey this miracle to the next generations. However, unless brevity has been decided in this book, the story would be mentioned as a whole.
Referring to the fact of the miraculous signals that are shown at the mausoleums of the Holy Infallibles (a.s), Shaykh al-°urr al-`ªmiliy has excellently composed poetic verses the translation of which is as follows:
And the blessings of his shrine are manifesting themselves everyday, as it was in the past and as it will be in the future. The healing of the blind and the recovery of diseases prove that all prayers are responded at these mausoleums.
([1]) Some Muslims call the name of R¡fi¤ah (rejecters) on the Sh¢`ite Muslims, because the latter have rejected the (baseless) rulership of Ab£-Bakr and `Umar over the Muslim community. (Translator)
